FASHION RUNDOWN RIGHT NOW

ah... it's friday. a great time to groove to awesome sounds & think about all the things i enjoyed wearing this week. spring '10 wardrobe must-gets are bearing down on us, but let's live in THIS MOMENT for a sec, ok?

 PURPLE REIGNS
it's not new, but it's still love... layers of ruffly raw tulle, taffeta, etc. finished with a pyramid stud belt, bitches. yeah. look for loads of confectionery tulle & ruffles and such in spring '10 too.

Purple buckle booties ruled
with my frothy frock + argyle tights.
oh how i've adored tights this season! & will continue to do so...

Glitterati Glam Nails
everywhere i go, high, low, i'm snatching up major glitter-packed polishes. and every time i get home from such acquisitions i'm layering on more coats to my already sparkling fingers. LOVE.

& while we're on the subject of hands—fingerless gloves = MUST. love how they look. love how they free you of feeling tactilely challenged... Yeah. THEY RULE.

SPOT ON CHUBBY COAT.
FAUX TO THE MAX.
girl. (& boys) i adore this thing. thank you GOD & FATE for the cold front. also, thank you for the surge of faux offerings as of late.

LIQUID SUPER HERO
OMG SHINE. Please stay. Please. I beg. Know what? It's staying in my closet. It's lived there forever & thanks to recent surges in such offerings, it's grown. Worn with a sweater tunic that covered my bum.

GRAY MATTERS FOREVER
admittedly i'm addicted to gray. it very nearly competes with black in my wardrobe.  But like black, gray can use an injection of splashy flash at times. in walks sequin-packed animal tank to save the day. oh, and studs on gray denim don't hurt either. Nor do...

CHUNKY JEWELTONE GEMS.
layer 'em on. revel in their bold, blingy goodness. i am.
you. must. get. rhinestones.

HAPPY FRIDAY LOVEYS.

WEIGH IN
can you handle it? you've (or rather, I'VE) got six options to choose from. i want to hear your thoughts, damn it.
the superfluous dilemma...

A. The Manhattan
So yeah, know me & know i'm NOT a fan of earthtones, browns, neutrals. Not leaning towards this one... break the mold?

B. The Jewel
Classic & timeless & all that.
Romantic & femme. A girl can never have too many such shoes, right?

C. The Corinna
She's got character. She's got a granny quality about her that i always fall for. While the trimmings and cut-outs give her a modern sensibility.

D. The Vixen
Holy hot. Mad metallic. But then, sort of romantic when it comes to the peep toe. Practical? Think "sunlovey practical" when considering this.

E. The Harley
Oh hot damn! How my heart pulls for this biker chick beauty. Strappy buckled bondage bad a$$-ness.

E. Just Say PEACE

To all of them & be a good girl who doesn't acquire any of the above. Because after all, any minute now it's going to 85 degrees here in sunny south florida & i won't be sporting any of these.

VOTE NOW. I MEAN IT. I NEED YOU.
by voting i mean comment below.

The sun shined down on me today

I have been craving a good live show so so badly lately. And Florida just hasn't been producing any. I was just recently in touch with the person that books APTBS shows, venting to him via email about the fact that while they WERE gracing the oft-neglected sunshine state with (a single) show, that show was in Tallahassee, which is practically Alabama and totally inaccessible for MOST of the state. I KNOW we are a difficult-to-reach peninsula, I realize a CRAP LOAD of elderly live here, but c'mon. There are masses of  music loving non-elderly here too. He kindly replied   to my small rant with a "we're looking into adding an Orlando date." For real, I figured he was just trying to shut me up. But low and behold. It's true. Sunday April 4th, Back Booth. If you live in Florida and dig APTBS you had better show up. I'm driving three hours. So can you. We have    GOT to make bands know they are desired down here. That we'll make it worth their inconvenience to get down here. HAVE GOT TO. The show's a mere $12 bucks. Seriously. Cough up the cash for a ticket, get yourself some earplugs (if you're the slighest bit adverse to BIG BLARING SOUND, ( they're known as the loudest band in New York)  and show up.
Have seen them live once already, at NYU back in March of '09. Was blown AWAY. Both literally and figuratively. Stunned by the degree to which they rocked, but further, insanely amazed by what goes into creating their distinctive sound. At one point the guys were on the floor plugging all these wires in to their guitars, into pedals, make a noise you'll have to experience in person to grasp. A cacophony of sound that is, in the end, beautifully LOUD.

Be there or be square, Florida.

★ ☆ ✮ ✯ ★ ☆ ✮ ✯

Am feeling like the Anoraak album is my new Cut Copy-esque obsession. sounds that can play over and over and over and over endlessly, that i'll never tire of, that i'll force myself to break away from eventually just because addiction is bad. dreamy, grooving layers, danceable beats, blissful background tracks for wherever life's taking you.

The ✯ Beach House tracks are sublime, serene & meaningful. am totally taken by both. taken hard.

Pleasantly surprised by this week's free itunes download, that would be Symphonies by Dan Black. thank you, itunes. Sounds separated by ---- and ----- were this weeks fab new offerings from Urban Outfitter's music mondays. get on that, boys and girls.

You can find MUCH of the music above on http://www.rcrdlbl.com/ FREE.

OH OH OH!
Thieves Spray!!!
I was sitting at my desk yesterday, writing away (the Summer 1 book already, can you imagine?), when I noticed that every few moments I was totally taken by a heady scent of citrus and spices swirling around my workspace. Finally I said aloud "WHAT IS THAT SPICY ORANGE SMELL!?"  It took a bit, but we finally figured it out, it was @the_real_debbie's THIEVES SPRAY.
I was like "thieves huh????" It smells fab but wait 'til I explain its quite cool history... The thieves essential oil blend was crafted based upon a historical tale of thieves in France who protected themselves from the black plague with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing those already deceased as a result of the deadly disease. Once captured, said thieves were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for their secret recipe. Today, supposedly, these same herbs & essential oils have been found to be an effective barrier against topical and airborne microorganisms. Young Living’s Thieves oil blend includes an intoxicating mix of clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and eucalyptus.  And they say it's been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense as it did in the fifteenth century. I do wonder about its ability to ward off plagues... perhaps swine flu? the_real_debbie's always got cool sh!@ to share...

MORE THINGS I LOVE
my brand new gravity-defying skull & cross bone handbag hook rules the world a little bit. was given to me by my friend & neighbor, suzanne. have you gotten your hands on one of these yet, loveys? yes? doze off for a bit. no, DO! somehow they easily hook onto a table or bar top and safely keep your fave handbag close at hand, off the dirty floor, off the back of your chair where it can be snatched easily.

pop glow
glow glasses, in bright blue of course. can be obtained currently by attending a pop glow show. stare through them and your night gets enhanced by a groovy, glowing haze, a perfect sensory addition to the music. rumor has it, recordings are in the works. and the word on the street is that pop glow wants to blow up south florida. i will inform when this comes to pass. promise.

vintage-inspired pinstripe tights from anthropologie, a stocking stuffer of sorts from the german. good taste, right? they were a match made in style heaven with my sequin animal Rodarte dress from target. there's something about them, they just feel retro & hot. love.

YAY YAY YAY the most sparkly pink & puffy hello kitty sticker ever. so damned cute i'm stressing over where to stick it. want to be able to stare upon it & grin like a 2nd grader forever...

if you pay attention at all, you know of my ongoing lust and obsession of plaid. as well as my endless love of all things that glitter. if you know me personally though, you know i've never been into designer bags. EVER. ok, for like five minutes in 7th grade i had to have a liz claiborne purse, but that was super fleeting. however, when i laid my eyes (on twitter of course) on coach's new line of plaid handbags, i was overcome with sick desire. i had no intention of giving into it, but santa insisted. meet my sparkly new poppy tartan bag. omg, i'm smitten.

And then there was MOXY, my new UGLYDOLL, spotted her at a shop in delray, read her tale and felt like we were stuffed animal soul mates. laugh. i don't care, but hear me out:
"Moxy's got a lot of moxy. She's a real get up and go Ugly, with far more energy than her older brother OX. Moxy's favorite activity seems to be bouncing off the walls and jumping in and out of mischief. Her giant antennas are always on the look out for a good time, and she can hear a party from miles away. She could hear you coming from all the way back over there! Are you a party animal? No? Would you like to take care of one? No? Well that's ok because Moxy is here to take care of you.  She can take care of pretty much any problem you may have... it's a gift of hers. For example, see how messy your room is? No problem. See? Moxy is on your side." So glad my mom & dad embrace my inner kid at heart. thank you!

And how could i omit rambling on about the one that got away in teal, but graciously returned in black. OMG this jacket is rad to the bone. so victorian, yet modern,  in a subtly shimmery brocade with dramatic puff shoulders, exposed zip sleeves and an ornate zipper-pull front. thank you bebe for bringing it back in black.

cookies, i could go on and on about stuff i'm mad about, but that's quite enough for now.  up next? THIEVES OIL (something fascinating i learned about from @the_real_debbie today) & how i managed to listen to Anoraak's Nightdrive with you at least 12 times today.

love,
sunlovey

baby it's

BLOODY COLD outside

and wow do south floridians like to BITCH about it. i find it refreshing. this chill makes my eyes open wider. and it allows me to bust out fun items of clothing like these metallic heart ruffly knee-high socks by Betsey Johnson. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
two killer holidays behind me, full of family, friends, brilliant times & glitter, GONE. up next? TELL ME. abhor not having big things in the pipeline. don't do well with lulls. brain is whirling, thoughts are stirring.
what. is. next.
not sure. need something. fill me in if you've got something mad & exciting going on. seriously. in the mean time, a few of my fave things... received as pressies. for example, these rulin' high-shine pewter leggings from @kris_1 (from forever 21 of course, sparkling sisters are super smart shoppers) will look NUTS with boots, imagine how they'll transform a cozy sweater tunic...

i get the feeling a lot of people see leggings like these and think "i've got no where to wear those" or "i WILL not/CAN not wear them". c'mon. watch me.  i'll show you. give your closet and your look a little edgy gleam.

what else am i adoring? oh it's the little things, like this new silver glittery headband from none other than Claire's boutique from my mom, she got them for her 5th grade art room helpers & knew i'd dig one too. so right mom, so right. :-) tossed it on to go to the gym tonight and no joke, it cured a bit of the dread i'd accumulated re: returning to that smelly hell hole. you need to see it in person. it freakin' SPARKLES.
would LOVE to hear from you, what fun little gifts & such did you receive that you're smitten with? equally as important, what new year excitement have you got cooking up? share it. give me ideas! am not joking. love new ideas...
happy '10, loveys! may it look good, sound good, taste good & feeeeeeel good!

love,
sunlovey

p.s. please tell me you're going on http://blog.urbanoutfitters.com/blog/category/music_mondays each monday and downloading their five brilliantly free tunes? you're not? wth is wrong with you. do it now.

I ❤ JAX

That's Heathy & I taking tea at Cozy Tea in Five Points, Jacksonville. Was fab. Had an insanely good black tea blend from INDIA. A vegetarian sandwich. Ruled.
Then she let me venture back to Anomaly, love that store, envy that store owner, majorly admire her next venture, Under Belly, a super secret back bar that you can get to via the back of her boutique that'll serve up wine & beer in a cozy spot, and feature local bands in a mad cool backyard. GET YOUR TAIL to Under Belly. Make me jealous. Back to the boutique though, yeah, I got a killer cuff there, will snap and post a photo asap. promise.

this is ANOMALY

Then there's Edge City. Mad groovy owner. Perhaps double my age? BRIGHT fuchsia & pink blunt bob. Insane jewelry. Bold wares. MY GOD. I wanted everything in her shop. I felt this last time i was there. Settled on a smart distressed grey silk dress that rules. "She" told me it was by a Danish desiger. A birthday gift to myself. Wait 'til you see it.

That's MOI & my former college roomie, heathy. NYE 2009. So typical of our personalities. Me trying to be scary, her laughing. love that girl. forever. AND... the coziness of her casa. could live there. for real.

C'est moi receiving happy BD calls. tiara & boa  in place.
HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!

THAT is my NYE tiara, i really do try to land myself a new one each year. this year i brought one for heathy & byrdie, as well as sparkling white boas. let me just say, that being a full time party princess sparkling sister requires such. obtain tiaras. acquie glitter eyeliner. glitter in general. rock it.

driving home from such fun. well. it's hard. it finds me on the verge of tears. God grants me with skies like this one so that i may survive the post holiday slump. thank you God.
love,
sunlovey
