DON'T THINK LOVER.
just saw a place to bury strangers for the second time on sunday at back booth in orlando. was my 1st time at back booth. hmm. bartenders are grouches. venue is small. this caused my pulse to race. knowing no matter where we ended up in the room, we were CLOSE. despite three days of ringing ears post the nyu show last year, i skipped earplugs. song one (ego death), i wondered why i'd skipped earplugs. post song one, i felt ok with my decision. they were simply not as loud as new york.
next realization, that was not their bassist. additional observation: vocals were hardly audible. despite these things, a place to bury strangers captivated for a (way too quick) 10-song set. MASSIVE walls of sound slashed through smoke & lights that could have caused ian curtis style fits. it's thick. you become entranced. you find yourself in awe of oliver ackermann's (singer/guitarist) relentless energy.
the room kind of explodes for a minute. chords glow. pedals are kicked and flicked. atmosphere is like a frenetic dream and well, it rules. after the show i managed to open my sassy mouth & whine about not being able to hear vocals, directly to ackermann. "great show, i couldn't hear you though." he was gracious. he smiled. he said sorry. i still love them. check out vids below. i so wonder what you'll think...
love, sunlovey

WEIGH IN
can you handle it? you've (or rather, I'VE) got six options to choose from. i want to hear your thoughts, damn it.the superfluous dilemma...
A. The Manhattan
So yeah, know me & know i'm NOT a fan of earthtones, browns, neutrals. Not leaning towards this one... break the mold?
B. The Jewel
Classic & timeless & all that.
Romantic & femme. A girl can never have too many such shoes, right?
C. The Corinna
She's got character. She's got a granny quality about her that i always fall for. While the trimmings and cut-outs give her a modern sensibility.
D. The Vixen
Holy hot. Mad metallic. But then, sort of romantic when it comes to the peep toe. Practical? Think "sunlovey practical" when considering this.
E. The Harley
Oh hot damn! How my heart pulls for this biker chick beauty. Strappy buckled bondage bad a$$-ness.
E. Just Say PEACE
To all of them & be a good girl who doesn't acquire any of the above. Because after all, any minute now it's going to 85 degrees here in sunny south florida & i won't be sporting any of these.
VOTE NOW. I MEAN IT. I NEED YOU.
by voting i mean comment below.

(this non-crisis, non-issue in light of all that is more important in the world was brought to you by an email to me from Shoe Dazzle.)
oh and just a little reminder:
DID YOU GET YOURS?

The sun shined down on me today
I have been craving a good live show so so badly lately. And Florida just hasn't been producing any. I was just recently in touch with the person that books APTBS shows, venting to him via email about the fact that while they WERE gracing the oft-neglected sunshine state with (a single) show, that show was in Tallahassee, which is practically Alabama and totally inaccessible for MOST of the state. I KNOW we are a difficult-to-reach peninsula, I realize a CRAP LOAD of elderly live here, but c'mon. There are masses of music loving non-elderly here too. He kindly replied to my small rant with a "we're looking into adding an Orlando date." For real, I figured he was just trying to shut me up. But low and behold. It's true. Sunday April 4th, Back Booth. If you live in Florida and dig APTBS you had better show up. I'm driving three hours. So can you. We have GOT to make bands know they are desired down here. That we'll make it worth their inconvenience to get down here. HAVE GOT TO. The show's a mere $12 bucks. Seriously. Cough up the cash for a ticket, get yourself some earplugs (if you're the slighest bit adverse to BIG BLARING SOUND, ( they're known as the loudest band in New York) and show up.
Have seen them live once already, at NYU back in March of '09. Was blown AWAY. Both literally and figuratively. Stunned by the degree to which they rocked, but further, insanely amazed by what goes into creating their distinctive sound. At one point the guys were on the floor plugging all these wires in to their guitars, into pedals, make a noise you'll have to experience in person to grasp. A cacophony of sound that is, in the end, beautifully LOUD.
Be there or be square, Florida.
love,
sunlovey
*** p.s. massive, heartfelt prayers go out to Haiti & its people in the aftermath of a sudden, intense earthquake today. let's join together and find a way to help that poor, suffering country. UPDATE: text HAITI to 90999 to instantly donate $10 to relief efforts. This minimal amount will be tacked on to your next cell phone bill, but will help immensely. Strength in numbers, boys & girls! ***

Music Ramblings
Run the Gamut
They were: Junebug by Robert Francis & Damaged Goods by Glint. While they're not my cup of tea, they may work for you. So check them out. Gotta take advantage of free tunes. Always.
I did watch Girls Just Want To Have Fun last night, got it from Netflix to Tim's dismay and had a blast soaking up 1985. Brought back to my consciousness a totally '80s electro pop tune that I immediately searched and listened to on youtube, then proceeded to find and download today. Laugh all you want. :-) It's brilliant to me. It inspires neon & high side pony tails.
On a much less poppy, much more recent note- A few tracks from A Place to Bury Strangers' Exploding Head album have definitely risen to the top of my sounds i'm obsessed with radar.
The first, Lost Feeling...
And the second, Smile When You Smile...
Entire album is playing over and over and over again at work & at play for moi. There is simply not a mediocre track on it. APTBS masters atmosphere. And if you don't get it/feel it right off, keep trying (to a point I mean, not everyone's gonna love). Try listening with headphones. Let the sound surround you.
Oh! Two more bands that i literally just became aware of today. Former ghosts &
Cold cave I'll be listening for more from them. Seeking them out. Keeping you posted.
I leave you with a brilliant new download-able mix from URBAN OUTFITTERS. Free & good. Get it: LSTN #7 i LOVE them. it's so cool that they put out these killer compilations and GIVE them away. they rock. (GET THIS: A Place to Bury Strangers AND The Big Pink appear on this mix!!!)
love,
sunlovey
p.s. did you catch Kim Gordon marrying Rufus & Lily on Gossip Girl Monday night? Then Sonic Youth performing on the show? if you aren't watching Gossip Girl YET, ask yourself WHY?
