recent acquisitions = i am in love.
You know when you lay eyes on something and feel yourself start to covet it? Then, eventually, finally, it becomes yours. Yours to reinvent just a bit, to your own taste and liking. That would be the case for my latest acquisition, comprised of layers upon layers of frothy ruffles in delicious silk. While it came with a cream self sash belt, I feel, well, something like a cupcake wearing this frilly tunic that way. Not that there's a single thing wrong with cupcakes. There is nothing wrong with them at all, and i will wear this delectable exposed zip racer back fave with its original sash belt in due time. But for now, I was drawn to my pyramid stud belt in black and gun metal instead. Layers of jet black strands and metal chains, black Edun skinny jeans and oh yes, sequiny sparkling peep-toes defined my non-cupcake look. it felt quintessentially sunlovey. thus all the pics. the right look, the right piece = art.  dare i wear my boston proper ruffle tunic alone, as an ultra mini-dress. look out. it's possible.

Just say HELL YEAH to sequin platform peep toes, they showcase my "avatar blue" pedicure so fabulously.

And the pièce de résistance... so crappily captured FOR NOW, HEART SHAPED GLASSES

BLAH.

Love love love this dark blue & green plaid crest blazer from boston proper. But rarely wear it because my magical "rock this look" treasure trove lacks killer gold items that rock. It's likely in my head but i put the jacket on and at times feel like a cruise director from the love boat. NOT EFFIN' COOL. +the fact that i wore it with a black V-neck sweater with no umph. shame on me. i just felt dull and cruise shippy.

so out of pure desperation, i dashed out during lunch in search of a quick fix. I found...

a cascading frills tank of chiffon and raw-edged self fabric ruffles for just $12.99 (i can never ever ever have too much ruffles, it's fair to say they're a close runner up to sequins in my chaotic closet) AND a bubble gum pink stretch belt decked out in GOLD pyramid studs by Betsey Johnson for another $12.99 (both at TJMaxx). Ripped off sweater in car, QUICKLY so as not to cause heart failure for the surrounding elderly.

Then jetted back to work, feeling much much better. Nothing like some bold black ruffles, a dash of pyramid studs & a pop of pink to sort out the cruise director crisis.

Fashion needs its little jaunts into the eclectic and unconventional to work for me.

In other news, seems like, on a daily basis i'm coming into an average of five new mp3s a day from various sources. Today's music highlights:
JUSTICE's new Beginning of the End

Yeasayer's 2nd single, O.N.E.

Last Dance (kap10kurt Dream Mix) by The Raveonettes

& a couple tracks by Four Tet from a friend... thank you, Aaron (of @popglow). Up next? A Surfer Blood @RespectableSt report.

BLACK&BLUEagain

a bit of #fashionkismet occurred the other day. desperate times called for well, not so desperate measures. simply put they called for me making a mad dash to my happy place. oh yes, target.
you see, i go there and stroll the isles, in almost every department, picking up this treasure and that until i find myself breathing easily again, until i find myself sort of smiling. then, i cash out & carry on with my day renewed. laugh. i'm serious. ok so on that particular target run i encountered a killer little gothy, frothy frock, yep, in the little girls' section, that would set me back a whopping $12.99.

while holding it out, admiring it, guestimating how it might fit me, i was spotted! by my senior VP of marketing, with her daughter. "hi... yes it's for me...." she smiled. i love her. a few minutes later i was practically skipping out to my car thinking, "this little (girl) black dress needs a serious dose of blue".  AND JUST as i was thinking this,  a few fashiony miles away, @kris_1 remembered one fabulous little birthday gift she'd forgotten to give me. uh huh, a brilliant blue sequin flower headband. now that's #fashionkismet. she brought said headband to me at my desk upon returning from lunch and watched my eyes light up, "how did you know?"

So anyway, my studded waist, layers-of-tulle dress got paired up to a lovely pair of pale blue tights i found in my drawer & granny style booties. Then finished off with a faceted blue crystal necklace i acquired from boston proper ages & ages ago. i felt like a dark little harajuku girl and had david gahan's black & blue again in my head all day long...

so yeah, i'll leave you with that. from his solo album, paper monsters:

happy hump day!

MAXed OUT
i did it. i wore a maxi dress. they've been HOT for like two+ years now. i never gave in. but THIS maxi dress. well, it's a killer grey color and the neckline is comprised of INSANE pewter-colored metal rings. got it from boston proper with the intention of cutting it into a mini. but i tried it on and i thought, "give it a go sarah." it came with a self sash belt. BLAH. i switched that out for a fun pyramid stud belt i got with a twelve by twelve top from forever 21 i have, put on my pyramid stud stretch bracelet, my HIGHEST heels and rocked it. HA. no really, i felt weird all day. a handful of people i ran into actually stopped in their tracks and said "i've never ever seen you in a long dress before sarah." so i did conclude, as i presumed i would, that i'm definitely a mini girl. do you think i should take scissors to my killer rings maxi? weigh in.

Fashion firstGot home last Friday with a couple of tops I got the day after my Prep School meets Rock chick blog. Threw a couple of looks together to show just how easy it truly is with a little bit of thought. The Look: Super ruffly confection of a shirt with a floppy bow tie (http://www.bostonproper.com) atop my bebe sparkling sequin skirt. Finished with a gray boyfriend cardigan (OLD, thrift shop purchase, quite possibly in high school). Pyramid stud headband $1 at Target). Chunky pewter heels from Patricia Fields. A fun mix of posh & rock star.

Food Next: Tonight I treated myself to an edible shopping spree at Super Target (even though I'm SUPER PISSED at them re: Anna Sui)... This is an indulgence difficult to understand. I get there, and I let myself wander and wander forever. Circling around, circling back. Dropping delights in, letting ideas of flavor congeal.

The plan: Four Nights of Effortless, Deliciousness, Mostly Healthiness & Yes, Of Course, Vegetarian...

The Grocery List:
Large jar of Kalamata olives
Galilee olive hummus
Goat cheese
Fresh mozzarella in water
Chive cream cheese
White truffle flavored olive oil
Broccoli florets
Organic baby carrots
A red onion
An avocado
Southwestern veggie dip
Baguette from the bakery
Six huge Roma tomatoes
Bulb of garlic
Fage Greek yogurt
Pesto parmesan crackers
Boca bruschetta tomato basil parmesan veggie patties
Box of Tazo organic chai
Box of classic frozen fudge bars

What I partook of tonight:
Chive cream cheese & crackers
Hummus & pita chips (already had pita chips)
Broccoli florets & Southwestern dip

For the next three nights I'll utilize the stuff listed above to create similar, easy, quick, yummy meals. Will fill you in. Eating decently, eating vegetarian is so simple.
