stay-at-home mom
i'd be an utter & total liar if i tried to pretend i sported these shoes all day, i'm requesting you practice a little suspension of disbelief where said shoes are concerned. and i think you'll giggle when i tell you about the bubble gum pink shorts i'm wearing.
really, i just wanted to talk about the fact that lately, i want to wear the same top every single day. no, i haven't succumb to stay-at-home-mom-i-don't-care-anymore frumpiness. nope, aforementioned top is just that bad ass. oversized and cozy, yes. but in a bold python print with structured stand collar and a chic swingy shape + pockets = #love.
but then, unexpected accessories started playing into my silly little photo shoot. so... i went with it.
the top = zara.
the shorts = kids size champion "sport" shorts from target. the corset-back heels = betsey johnson. the shades = marc jacobs. the mask = pulcinella, a venetian carnevale character, the baby = my very best accessory, the famous baby L. happy monday, loveys!

no joke. and i love them.

Publish Post
in other news, spent sunday at the beach and noticed, every little bag i brought along just looked so fun together on top of the Target table cloth i use as a beach blanket.
the beach bag is from Boston Proper.
the day of the dead mini-cooler is by Sugar Booger. the drawstring fabric bag was "gift wrap" from a dear old friend. Lastly, that's my dear friend Jen of the ATL wearing another one of my Sunlovey Forever felt flower necklaces. Also crafted for her as a thank you! J'adore my sparkling faves.

calypso st. barth
admittedly i wasn't over the moon for the calypso st. barth for target collection, launched this past sunday. nevertheless, i found a couple crisp, classic pieces i felt dead set on acquiring & injecting with my own sunlovey spin. like the white cotton tunic with delicate embroidery at the neckline and button-tab cuffs, shown. which i paired to hue cargo leggings, my pewter patricia field platforms, chunky sterling lois hill bracelets and a necklace i created in st. john 1000 years ago, featuring a hinged garnet & pearl pendant on a freshwater pearl strand. i felt like a grown up version of my self. yep, am still playing dress up it seems... in other target fashion news, the buzzzzzzz all day yesterday was a missoni for target collection rolling out this september. have j'adored the vivid woven patterns of missoni since my 1st trip to italy in '95. holy awesome. i hope.

the shun shine state
bear with me if you're reading this & you don't live in FL or if you are in FL but couldn't give a damn about my music obsession. this particular post might bore you. but this week i have been trying to dig a bit deeper into the travesty that is the south florida (and well, florida on the whole) music scene. besides the obvious, we're an inconvenient state to play in geographically, what else contributes to "indie" bands not deeming us worthy?
i've gotten a couple answers: that bands ask to be flown down, which is cost prohibitive for promoters, and that unless artists get offer$ from promoters/venues in florida, to play florida, their not likely to try and play here because it's way out of their way.
not really sure what to do with this information... move? i've done my share of borderline stalking/begging bands on twitter (have nothing to lose) it was actually @holyghostNYC that told me regarding them playing here: @sunlovey its not up to us! Petition your local promoters!
hey holy ghost! am doing my best. got a bit more promising response from @smallblk: @sunlovey Need to hit Miami soon! maybe Winter run down there? thanks, small black. i can only hope. we DO have a small handful of indie sounds heading our way. if you live here and love this music enough to be reading me rant on & on about it, GO to these shows, OK? you can start this weekend, saturday, at grand central in miami—the pains of being pure at heart and surfer blood. or on sunday, at the fillmore in miami beach—passion pit & tokyo police club. see you there?

because #fashion is NOT i repeat, is NOT an after thought, am wearing:

the dress...target #love (poppin' blooms!)
necklace & bracelet...forever 21
sequin sash belt...found in a deep dark crevice of closet

stay tuned for the killer finds on my way, acquired in the name of #pitchforkmusicfestival.

Breakin' Rules.
Hey loveys.
Confession to make.
I wore a swimsuit cover up today as a dress.
Sorry but it's too cute to solely be worn atop swimwear.
Eff that.
It's by Becca. Topped it with a shimmery wrap cardie, oh how i wish you could see it sparkle, sorry for the crap photo in this case (& yeah, in some others as well. promise to work on that).
Look for fashion outside of the box, that is, in swimwear, lingerie, even PJs. am "guilty" of wearing all three, out & about.
whatever. you like it, wear it. Then, layer on the bracelets. big, bold, color. loads of it. and if you're good, treat yourself to a little HELLO KITTY TOTE. found this one today whilst picking up conditioner at my happy place. #YAY. sure hope tuesday was good to you.

 JUST FELL HARD
FOR RACHEL ROY
& my bank account is going to reflect that & i'm going to be in major trouble. but what's a girl to do that loves fashion too much, is inspired by the exotic, gravitates towards all that sparkles & just told @kris_1 yesterday that she's in desperate need of some new long, slim tunic-type pieces that work with her skinny jeans & leggings. Ray Roy's site is brimming with bold color, major drama, edgy twists & sexy indian influences. i was a gonner the moment i logged on. i pray the german will forgive me. can you put one in for me too? thanks.
What else? BOLD over-the-top ruffles offset by an understated ballet-inspired headband, tons of jet and crystal necklaces and liquid-slim black skinny jeans.
sweater: "vintage" boston proper
necklaces: forever 21 & betsey johnson
black skinny jeans: tripp
over-the-knee boots: shoes.com

military + ruffles = so right
ATTENTION! I will never ever tire of military inspired fashion & it seems like as long as we're at war???, it keeps coming to the forefront by way of great jackets, boots, accessories & such. Ruffles lend a little romance to the look.

Jacket & shades: forever 21
Ruffle tank: Carole Little (no joke, $9.99 at TJMaxx)
Sweater vest tunic: Monarchy
Ruched leggings: cant recall
Candy: Tootsie pop

 splash blooms & bold shoulders
bright buds & blooms can be pigeon holed into spring/summer attire, unless... you add jacket + layers of chains + tights + boots as i have. splashy florals are EVERYWHERE for spring, mix it up. make it yours. Perhaps more importantly, get your hands on at least one piece of fashion with mega shoulder treatments. Could be studding, could be structured puffs, could be exaggerated padding, chains. I kid you not I am obsessed with the female shoulder. i've always seen it as a body part that will stay stunning as we age. which is why it's where i got my tattoo. so i do love the focus on the shoulder. i think it's hot.
Jacket: Bebe
Dress: Forever 21
Necklace: Target
Tights: high school :-)
Boots: Guess

I'm going to leave with you with glimpses at my Rachel Roy splurges. and by splurges, i SHOULD stress, i got FAB deals. just had no business BUYING MORE FASHION RIGHT NOW. aren't you dying to see how i wear these pieces? ha. I AM. SO in love...

RIP ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Fashion
lost a
mad cool,
eclectic,
rockin'
wild child
today.
Am deeply
saddened.
i'm certain he received many such @ reply tweets as mine the day he tweeted about his mother passing away. twitter has become that for many of us, a place to vent, to mourn, to announce, to celebrate, TO - REACH - OUT - and be heard by others out there that just might relate when those immediately around you don't, or simply aren't even aware of the revelations, demons and trials we're facing. Who knows if he read his @ replies.
sunlovey @McQueenWorld so so very deeply sorry. love to you. thank GOD for your mum!

I've just been sitting here reflecting on how he's influenced me, even just recently. :-( Back in december i was led, by my mad hip CEO to a blog she thought i'd like, the two dog blog, and it was there, i spied this crazy cool Alexander McQueen clutch and experienced instant, EXTREME LUST.

alexander mcqueen's clutch is an absolute must-lust. brilliant idea. and so insanely executed. LOVE.

FRIENDLY FUEL*
Yesterday I got the deliciously correct amount of fruits & veggies. Days like that + a happy 30 minutes of pilates = sunlovey feeeeling good. Will say. Lunch consisted of the delightful little recyclable tray of fruits & cheeses you see below + orange blossom green tea from dear old starbucks.

Then dinner came along and I set out to make a rockin' salad. Told the german it was sort of like tex mex meets italia. the flavors complemented each other in fierce ways, with each bite i mixed different ingredients for my own experimental pleasure. sounds nuts? try it. fresh mozz with kalamata olive and pickled jalapeño for example? MAD GOOD.

Here's what it entailed:
-delectably creamy chunks of fresh avocado
-chopped vine-ripe tomatoes
-subtly spicy pickled jalapeños
-tangy sneaky spicy sliced banana pepper
-chunks of white albacore tuna (SO italian, tuna in salad, pasta, etc.)
-pitted kalamata olives (not a major fan of salty, these are the exception)
-fresh buffalo mozzarella (yes, the kind in water)
-chick peas (fiber/protein + filling)

the dressing (tried & true concoction i learned at the italian restaurant i worked at thru college):
-extra virgin olive oil
-balsamic vinegar
-two cloves pressed garlic
-mega splash of organic lemon juice
-a heaping  spoonful of grated parmesan
-chopped fresh basil

so yeah, I crashed last night feeling all was right in the world.  the pilates workout helped for sure (do you do pilates? have you tried? i felt like it was a faster paced, less zen-y yoga = more my style) as did eating so right. & i sacrificed nothing, all was fab. if you are what you eat, i was super green yesterday & i love it. you truly CAN train your body to crave eats that are good for you. don't believe me? i dare you to try.

love,
sunlovey

(that's my sequin animal rodarte for target dress, mad love.)
p.s. *friendly fuel = no animals being sacrificed to rock my palate.

BLACK&BLUEagain

a bit of #fashionkismet occurred the other day. desperate times called for well, not so desperate measures. simply put they called for me making a mad dash to my happy place. oh yes, target.
you see, i go there and stroll the isles, in almost every department, picking up this treasure and that until i find myself breathing easily again, until i find myself sort of smiling. then, i cash out & carry on with my day renewed. laugh. i'm serious. ok so on that particular target run i encountered a killer little gothy, frothy frock, yep, in the little girls' section, that would set me back a whopping $12.99.

while holding it out, admiring it, guestimating how it might fit me, i was spotted! by my senior VP of marketing, with her daughter. "hi... yes it's for me...." she smiled. i love her. a few minutes later i was practically skipping out to my car thinking, "this little (girl) black dress needs a serious dose of blue".  AND JUST as i was thinking this,  a few fashiony miles away, @kris_1 remembered one fabulous little birthday gift she'd forgotten to give me. uh huh, a brilliant blue sequin flower headband. now that's #fashionkismet. she brought said headband to me at my desk upon returning from lunch and watched my eyes light up, "how did you know?"

So anyway, my studded waist, layers-of-tulle dress got paired up to a lovely pair of pale blue tights i found in my drawer & granny style booties. Then finished off with a faceted blue crystal necklace i acquired from boston proper ages & ages ago. i felt like a dark little harajuku girl and had david gahan's black & blue again in my head all day long...

so yeah, i'll leave you with that. from his solo album, paper monsters:

happy hump day!

DIY IS IN SESSION.
Amazing, truly, how a split second that took place while devouring my Art Vandalay burrito at Moe's last week lit the fire that is under my
@$$ like it did.
I'm enjoying my lunch with a side of queso; I'm facing the
door. Guy walks in, looks to long line in disgust, then walks out. Walks with quick strides to
a waiting SUV, rides away.
"Damn that guy's hoodie was cool. Gosh, did you see that?! Man, I only got to look at it for a couple seconds. Why did he walk out? Man. It was so cool. It had to be DIY?!" I rambled on. Krista nodded. Everyone else seemed to avoid rolling their eyes.

It stayed in my head. I brought it up a couple more times that day. I tweeted about it. I mentally, seriously committed to making my own. I didn't think it could be as bad @$$, I lamented not getting
a better look at that random dude not wanting to wait in line to eat at Moe's.
I woke up today to the sound of the husband and his friends stirring downstairs in preparation for a day of wake boarding and the wheels of thought in my brain began to crank. I'm doing it. Today. At least starting it. That would ensure it would actually happen. That and the fact that thoughts of creating and DIY projects were simultaneously on the brain of Krista, and she'd tweeted about hosting such a night at her place post our fashion swap. Accountability. A set time to get it done.

Ideas flitting about our heads, never coming to be, are a true travesty, don't you think?

So I got up, got ready, and set out right behind the guys on their way to the lake.
Destination: Starbucks, then Super Target, then, don't laugh, I know I'm a bit old, and it's well, questionable on some fundamental levels, but then, Hot Topic.

"Venti soy chai, no water, no foam, extra pumps if you please" in hand, I began my quest for the perfect hoodie. Solid, soft, good fit. Score. Dark heather gray, on clearance, price: $11. Then around and around Target I went. No goal. No purpose. Just kind of like being on a Merry-Go-Round as a wee child. Pointless, but euphoric.
In the end, i made out with some clever little DIY hoodie gems. After much thought, a little creativity, a lot of ingenuity. Paid. Left. Headed for Hot Topic. Gotta love kids, male kids, wearing red eyeliner. No seriously, you do. That is not attractive. But it IS unique. Well. in most circles it is. Cased out the store, found more killer hoodie additions, paid and was on my way.

Didn't see any pyramid stud piece at either place that my brain could wrap itself around using, and act ually attaching to my project. so that's still a goal. amongst scouring the web in general for additional inspiration.

fast forward several hours, scissors in hand, i'm cutting and
crafting. pining. visualizing. even began hand-sewing. DIY hoodie is on its way to hopeful greatness. blog readers, hold me accountable!!!!!!! ask me how it's coming along. ask for progress photos.

hope you had an awesome weekend.

love,
sunlovey
