Something old,
something new,
something feathered,
something blue.
the top was scored at anthropologie post-story time @ Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach this past Thursday, thus... it's my something new, and well, my something blue too. something old? define old. ;-)my sequin hot pants have been around the block for a few months, forever 21. tights, urban outfitters. and sequin platform heels, steve madden. finally, something feathered... my massive statement hair clip/pin—so fun! wore this to a party on saturday at my abuelita's. oooh la la!
seriously still on a sexy shorts kick. don't foresee it ending, it's been quite a warm "winter". and spring into summer is just around the bend. what are you obsessing over forever? tell me!

p.s. stay tuned for a give-away.
it's been waaaaaaay too long, dear loveys!

today i did what i do best when exhausted.
i shopped.
auto pilot style.
mind you, world,
i am a girl who acquires on the cheap.
layers of tulle frills fell quickly in love with
pale sequin-kissed florals.
a teeny, glittery dress upon a hanger
completed my sleepy, dreamy vision...
once again, i feel like marie antoinette would approve.
ha, when in doubt...

(c'est moi on sleep-deprived auto pilot, took this photo in nordstrom's bathroom after reading a quote about how people dress on their "days off" being interesting. was it jason wu that said it? help!)

exotic shine
when i spotted this asian-y kimono-inspired top on hautelook a few weeks ago i felt overwhelmingly compelled to hoard it in yellow as well. damn smart of me, it's such love. the sunny yellow version is begging me hard to top a creamy chiffon & lace skirt, which is going to give off an entirely different aura. i'll try and get that on tomorrow if L allows. right now i'm in a sleek and stunning (ha) black nursing tank & heather grey leggings that have been compromised by a bodily fluid i'll spare you from mentioning. blah. i've digressed horribly... the shorts, well they're short. and shimmery. encrusted in black sequins. shine is going nowhere, loveys. so shine! tip: if you want to wear something some might consider a little overt, offset said item with something quite the opposite. that's what i did here, short shorts offset by a beautiful, flowy blouse. oh & yeah, i'm fully favoring shorts right now. mid-october. what can i say? add tights. spike & rhinestone heels round out this eclectic look. happiest of fridays, talk to me, i'm lonely...

p.s. please check out my article on examiner.com, am trying to decide if i should continue to contribute as their local fashion trend writer, thoughts?

every.
single.

tribal-esque thing i own elicits a "did jerry bring that back for you?" from the german. jerry is a friend of ours that spent two years in cameroon whilst in the peace corps. then came back with all sorts of over-the-top men's tribal garb that smelled as if someone had died upon each and every piece. i'll never ever forget OR stop erupting into fits of laughter when i think of the day we had plans to hit the local dark wave club we frequented at the time and dear jerry came down our stairs wearing one such look. the german threw a bloody tantrum. i lost 3 lbs laughing. the german insisted he change. i dared him to leave it on. yeah, the german hates tribal anything. nothing against the culture whatsoever, just seems to wish we'd let them go on wearing it as opposed to us. all that said, he's rolling in the grave he's not even in yet in over all the tribal prints he's seeing out there and on me as of late. guess he wishes we were all clad in dirndls .

the shoe that launched a look
you come by a fun shoe, you make it yours.
you want to wear it right away.
so you let it guide you, entirely...
& shape every single other thing you put on your body.
a look is born.
all because of a shoe.
sequin blazer: forever 21
lace-trim tank: michael stars
necklace: H&M
denim legging: hue
the shoe: preview international, snagged at nordstrom rack yesterday, on a whim.

sparkling & baking
toss on a total-sequin dress & no matter how under the weather you're feeling, you'll shine so much people won't even notice (was sick as dog in this photo, sequin dress & glitter shoes saved the day).
in other holiday frenzy news, i decided i'd throw my hat into the cookie baking ring this year when i got inspired by a self magazine article. so far i've whipped up coconut orange stars and peppermint-iced snowmen & trees.
the cookie dough recipe
(get out your cookie cutters!!!
have none, get some.)
you'll need:
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 tbsp softened unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
soooo...
combine flour, baking powder, baking soda & salt in one bowl.
combine butter & sugar in another, whip it, whip it good. then add egg whites and vanilla whip that up too.
add flour mixture to butter/egg mixture slowly, stirring stirring stirring.
roll this fab dough into a log, wrap in wax paper and chill for three whole hours.
once three hours has passed, take out dough, half it, roll it out and start cookie cuttering. bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.

the icings (so easy)...

orange/coconut
1 cup shredded coconut (lightly toasted)
2 tbsp orange juice
zest of one orange
a ton of powdered sugar

mix OJ, zest & sugar until lovely and smooth. dip each cookie top side up in icing then, dip iced cookie in coconut 'til it's nicely coated. let cookies set and then prepare for orangey, coconut heaven.

candy cane icing
four candy canes beaten to a pulp
a bit of water or skim milk, you're call
a ton of powdered sugar

mix sugar and water/skim milk 'til smooth. again, dip each cookie top side down into icing then into crushed candy canes, let set. then prepare for minty loveliness.

Must I remind you? Today's #MUSICMONDAY !!!
If you do nothing else I say, at least go and get yourself the Beach House Daytrotter session. Simply register on daytrotter.com then download away. There are four free songs there for you to gobble up. I think you'll freakin' love Take Care & Used To Be. Please trust me. They're haunting, emotional and gorgeous.

Want more? Urban Outfitters continues to grace us with FIVE song downloads each week in glorious celebration of #musicmonday... Here's that.

So as I was saying, the German went to Vegas and all I got were these brilliant plaid platforms...  OMG I love them more and more as each second passes. Trimmed in studded patent leather, featuring a plaid heel and a bright pink lacquered sole, classic Betsey. Danke!
And what gets a girl through the grayest Monday ever?
Why sequins of course. Never let anyone try and convince you otherwise. Sequin covered ANYthing brings you this intense joy and high-shine edge. Merci @kris_1 for this FAB H&M cropped sequin jacket. It's so LOVE.

Oh speaking of love, CANNOT wrap my brain around it being February already. Hope you all had awesome weekends.

Remember to live in THIS MOMENT. Yes, THIS ONE.

Fashion firstGot home last Friday with a couple of tops I got the day after my Prep School meets Rock chick blog. Threw a couple of looks together to show just how easy it truly is with a little bit of thought. The Look: Super ruffly confection of a shirt with a floppy bow tie (http://www.bostonproper.com) atop my bebe sparkling sequin skirt. Finished with a gray boyfriend cardigan (OLD, thrift shop purchase, quite possibly in high school). Pyramid stud headband $1 at Target). Chunky pewter heels from Patricia Fields. A fun mix of posh & rock star.

Food Next: Tonight I treated myself to an edible shopping spree at Super Target (even though I'm SUPER PISSED at them re: Anna Sui)... This is an indulgence difficult to understand. I get there, and I let myself wander and wander forever. Circling around, circling back. Dropping delights in, letting ideas of flavor congeal.

The plan: Four Nights of Effortless, Deliciousness, Mostly Healthiness & Yes, Of Course, Vegetarian...

The Grocery List:
Large jar of Kalamata olives
Galilee olive hummus
Goat cheese
Fresh mozzarella in water
Chive cream cheese
White truffle flavored olive oil
Broccoli florets
Organic baby carrots
A red onion
An avocado
Southwestern veggie dip
Baguette from the bakery
Six huge Roma tomatoes
Bulb of garlic
Fage Greek yogurt
Pesto parmesan crackers
Boca bruschetta tomato basil parmesan veggie patties
Box of Tazo organic chai
Box of classic frozen fudge bars

What I partook of tonight:
Chive cream cheese & crackers
Hummus & pita chips (already had pita chips)
Broccoli florets & Southwestern dip

For the next three nights I'll utilize the stuff listed above to create similar, easy, quick, yummy meals. Will fill you in. Eating decently, eating vegetarian is so simple.
