what you eat...
is what you are...!
so yeah, I'm a vegetarian tostada. mad easy. five minutes tops. switch out or add whatever you would like to, to make them your own.
*get your hands on pre-made tostada shells.
*round up a nice ripe haas avocado, cube it
*you'll need refried beans, mine are refried black beans
*a ripe tomato, chopped small
*lettuce of your choice, shredded
*cheese of your choice, grated
*your fave sour cream
**wish i'd had, fresh jalapeño, next time...

layer refried black beans onto the tostada shells & toast in your toaster oven for a bit, then add cheese, toasted further, until cheese melted, then add all else, ta da! easy. healthy. vegetarian. provided you don't add any poor dead animals. ;-)
to drink? a michelada of course.
* fave mexican cerveza
*fresh lime juice
*fave hot sauce
*fresh ground black pepper
*course salt
*ICE

salt the rim of your glass if you want, add ice. poor beer over ice, add the rest to taste, garnish with a lime wedge & well, see if your eyes roll back in your head with spicy delight OR if you feel like spitting. this isn't for everyone. frankly, i love it. thanks @kris_1 for suggesting i order one at rocco's tacos a while back.

love is.
this KILLER necklace of shards, spikes & rings from armani exchange. it's icy and edgy. chunky and bold. cool hotness. hadn't been in an AX in ages. ambled in post vino at city cellar and spotted this have-to-have.
liberty of london for target PJs worn as a top for a day at sea, err, intracoastal... the collection is fab. i want it all. but i fell hard for what was supposed to be a little something worn to bed. i do that a lot.
gigantic blue star earrings, crafted in super lightweight wood, a gift from a baltimore boutique, thanks, jessiekins.

it was definitely the brilliant blue that grabbed me, of course the sparkle. yep, more armani exchange. electric blue burn-out tank of stars, sparrows and most important, SEQUINS.
you've prob. seen it before. my trusty rusty heather grey boyfriend cardigan. guess it would be more appropriate to call it a mr. rogers cardigan. purchased for peanuts at a boston proper sample sale. has been to more shows than i can count. gets tossed atop look after look, high and low. total fave.

and last but so so so not least, the song that acts like a jolt of caffeine & claritin, my absolute love of the moment... neon indian's sleep paralysist. download it FREE, here:

colliding...floating.

so i've been falling hard for ethereal, diaphanous, floaty sheer spring confections if you haven't noticed. seriously, if you haven't, you need to venture backwards in my blog and catch up. and like that, it dawned on me today, that there had been a clash of #musickismet & #fashionkismet in my world as of late i hadn't noticed. huh?...
because yesterday i was lost in "recently added", yeah, that section of my ipod/itunes full of relatively new (to my library) music, thinking, i'm going to toss together a little mix, burn it to a CD and see who of you really wishes to have it. ANYONE? the mix is called Stay Floating, which can be understood in two ways. it can allude to the style of music, much of which has recently been coined chill wave, basically sound with dreamy fab beats. or, it can allude to something a bit more serious. like stay above water, don't sink, don't drown.

nevertheless, i snapped photos with my phone of my fave fashion story in the most recent vogue mag, April 2010 to be specific, maybe two days ago, for a blog post. then today, i took photos of the CD mentioned above and DAMN. noticed the other photos,  & the fashion story's called FLOAT ON. no joke.
i knew if i dug around a bit, shopped my own closet, i'd find dreamy chiffon pieces, layers of sheer frothy silk and lace and such. so i dug deep. and i ran into this, not pastel and icing like, but...

yeah, still floaty...
am thinking i really NEED floaty as of late. and thus am gravitating to it in both fashion & sound. but what's the rest of the world's excuse? the same? so yeah, the mix. it was put together impulsively. it represents some major faves that will stick with me 'til the end and some sound that's just super fresh and infectious for now.

i'm going to go out on a bit of a limb here and say, i'll send the CD out to the person that most convinces me they too could use some help floating...
featuring: gorillaz, the hundred in the hands, ariel pink's haunted graffiti, jj, memory tapes, the sight below, neon indian, broken bells, foals, pantha du prince, pop glow, bear in heaven & caribou

wait for it toPOP

watch itGLOW
You gotta show up to GLOW UP.
Fortunately for you, somewhat, I took video amidst dancing my bum off to    POP GLOW last Thursday. Thus the agitated nature of much of my footage. I found myself way close to a mega speaker, so there's some blaring. But kids, CALLING ALL GLOW KIDS EVERYWHERE, this is the band I blogged about back in mid December. And, they've come a long way baby. Feeeeel it? Respectable Street certainly did. As did The Vagabond, Miami (scroll down, stare center, for photos). Your next chance to catch Ronnie, Josh, Aaron & Ian glow the place up? THIS WEEKEND. WHERE: Total Bummer in Gainesville, FL.

What you eat...
yep. You got it. That's what you are. HOLY HELL does that resonate with me today, post watching

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution last night. Watching him explore what eats are being served at American school cafeterias, as well as within the homes of American families. A sea of mostly one single hue, a golden brown hue. A hue processed foods turn once fried to perfection. I'm not going regurgitate the show here. I'm not going to act like a health bad ass either. I had fried fish tacos yesterday. But GOOD LORD. Daily? No way. Mondays are for making it up...Today I am... A a baked spicy black bean garden burger smothered in mozzarella cheese, a dollop of sour cream and fresh tomato accompanied by fab pile of raw broccoli, a tasty scoop of roasted garlic hummus & a delicious octet of kalamata olives.  Way to sort out weekend transgressions, sunlovey! ;-) Hope your Monday didn't hurt too badly. Stay tuned for a gushing account of Saturday night's @popglow show, here in West Palm. Catch up kiddos. They're fresh & killing it.

FREELANCE WHALESBEAR IN HEAVENCYMBALS EAT GUITARS
Will's Pub, Orlando
Saturday night's show was much like a sandwich. The bread (opening & headling acts) was good, sound, tasty enough, but it was the content in between (bear in heaven) that was eyes-roll-back-in-head delicious. Jon Philpot's voice is unreal. Pure, otherworldly, beautiful, almost eerie at times. It was hard to stop staring at him, no joke, wondering how he was blessed with such pipes. But Joe Stickney did manage to distract. What a killer, happy, grooving drummer. Adam Wills, you ruled too, despite all hurdles (broken guitar string, food poisoning? etc.). There wasn't an instant I wasn't totally feeling Bear in Heaven. Not one. Mad glad I made the trek from West Palm to catch them.

I purchased their recent release, Beast Rest Forth Mouth impulsively. Bravo to my impulses. It lingered in the "recently added" section of my itunes getting its fair play throughout my day. (Note: "recently added" is a folder of sorts that exists within your itunes library. It's ever evolving as you add new music to your itunes & i LIVE in my recently added section. I have to pry myself away from it from time to time.) Then at some point Beast Rest Forth Mouth kicked the hell in. I cranked up the volume. I clicked the repeat endlessly button. I likely drove those around me mad. I did not care. Nuances I hadn't caught originally came to light. And it dawned on me, "holy sh!t you can DANCE to this stuff!" And witnessing them live, I did. Nonstop. By myself. (WHAT IS UP ORLANDO???? Loosen up, feeeel it. MOVE.) Jon's banter between songs & during guitar troubles was dry & amusing. "Anybody got any specific drum beat they wanna hear? He can do it." He said with a straight face. Joe jokingly, yet, skillfully broke into various beats. My cohorts did not stop speaking about how he was easily the best drummer they'd witnessed in a long time.

Had a chance to speak to each member of the band afterwards, got such a rad vibe. They're modest as hell. Affable. Clever. Humorous. And they told me they'd return. And not just to Florida, but to South Florida (Adam even joked that he'd like Bear in Heaven to play at The Breakers Hotel, Palm Beach)  so cross all your fingers & toes, NOW. Thanks.

The German was kind enough to capture some video of the show for me. Dig in:

Don't skip a single song on this album. While tracks 'You Do You' and 'Lovesick Teenagers' might be the ones getting air play on stations like XM's XMU, the remaining eight tracks are equally as brilliant if not better. Dust cloud is hypnotic. Wholehearted mess. Fake Out. Listen, the whole album rules. Please listen. Please buy. Please check them out live should life grant you the blissful opportunity.

Fashion Rocks Palm Beach
Well, rocks is pushing it. It was a lovely night though. And being Intracoastal side in downtown West Palm these days makes me feel this weird sense of pride. It's sparkling. It's beautiful. Refreshed. They're trying...
A small eclectic crowd assembled along the water, a DJ played an odd lot of sound, a local restaurant, Cabana served up a limited menu & drinks for a nominal fee. Girls stood on boxes, bodies painted in Pucci-inspired prints. I downed a super sweet mojito and stared. at... a "punk rock" poodle. Girls from Palm Beach Atlantic in black leotards & white tutus doing interpretive? dance to a song I no longer like as a result. Palm beachers. Bronzed hostess looking girlies. A few "swanky" guys... Then, it was time. We got a look at a portion of  Emilio Pucci Spring/Summer 2010 a few months after it was shown in Milan (in Sept. 2009). What we saw of the collection was quite killer. Metallic snake. Billowy ethereal sheer chiffon prints, many of which managed to shine somehow. A body-con cobalt and royal blue mini dress with a rad wave of sequin running through it. Dangerous cut outs. Canary yellow. Voluminous layers that allowed quick sexy glimpses at sleek body suits. Yeah. I dug. Palm Beach is no fashion capital. So I'll take AND SUPPORT what I can get. Here's a glimpse...

Hola friends.
I've got Alice-itis. Seems I'm not the only one smitten with the latest Burton flick, however my love runs deeper than the fantastical escape that wonderland is, alone. It hovers and revolves around the FASHION involved. So many spectacular fashion scenes. The initial engagement party, a sea of frilly pastel confections. The way in which Alice's original blue frock (quite lovely) transforms into something sultry and voluminous amidst lots of shrinking and growing. Becomes something entirely new & delightful thanks to the Mad Hatter, his strapless corsage creation made me gasp, i'm not joking... changes once again upon arriving at the Queen of Hearts' castle (although red, not blue, still, WOW!).
The next mind-blowing fashion moment? Alice's arrival at the White Queen's abode, a beautiful winter white-attired lace and ruffled court. Delicious. Then, Alice is suddenly clad in an Asian-inspired tunic & pants in the palest of shades. A somewhat strange look in the film, but lovely still. Next up, there's some nicely fitting metallic armor involved & lastly a gorgeous pale blue coat. LOVE. Bravo to costume designer, Colleen Atwood. Am hooked. I want it all. Someone roll these icy blue looks out, please. If you find images online of Alice's other looks I beg you to send them my way. Am fully obsessed.
Seems the retail world KNEW loveys like moi would be. Note all the Alice in Wonderland wares that ARE out there... nail polish, organic shampoo, prom dresses? However, all i wish for is every single look Alice wore.

SHOES & SOCKS
Elle magazine, March 2010 issue

Vogue, Feb. or March? 2010 issue

D&G Fall 2010 Runway

Taylor Momsen on recent Gossip Girl set

My take. In love. Thoughts?

You dig? Try it out. Socks can peek out of boots, platform pumps, even sandals. Give it a go with the usual sweater knit variety or sheer, thin trouser  socks. Knee high or chunky and scrunched down.Simple as that. Fresh & new. Well, since you were a kid.
