SHOP THE CLOSET

when nothing new's arrived at your doorstep...
last night, late at night, i recalled this dress. i can thank the bathing suit i wore for a late afternoon walk on the beach, as its neckline is the same.
low & behold, i found it this a.m. during my mad dash to get ready.
YAY.
topped it with a varied hem metallic silver/pewter cardie, silver wedges and a mélange of stretch bracelets, then set out to face monday, albeit grouchily. (as evidenced in below photo)

suffice to say am still in somewhat of a new music rut. and my brain is definitely suffering from this as it misfired a track from the '90s AND a track from the '80s randomly this afternoon. had to share... so happy the latter replaced the former. never did dig the former all that much, which is why it's so peculiar it came to me out of the blue:

back in black

i swing like a pendulum on speed between splashy vivid color-drenched patterns to inky, rebellious, high-drama black on the regular. but the last several months i feel like i've betrayed black on some level, by ignoring it as if it did something horribly wrong to me. and after yesterday's frilly little icing-like crochet look i craved it, head to toe today. of course i insisted on sparkling nevertheless.

my torrid affair with color...

lives on. the vivid hues, bleeding into each other on my smocked waist dress BLOW my mind in such a killer way. am definitely going to wear the sash belt that came with it elsewhere. metallic cap-sleeve hoodie, an oldie but awesome-y, is such love, and adds an interesting layer. (both forever 21)

oh, so side note: i've been flirting, scandalously, with the thought of going red, so my aveda colorist hooked me up with strawberry blonde shampoo & conditional to play with. some might see the way experimenting with this carroty color looks once dry as jacked, but i think it looks like fire, and thus, i dig.

(which is wrong wrong wrong, i don't flinch when it comes to fashion!?) leaning towards indulging in something i probably should have 7 years ago, depeche mode's 81-04 remixes release, featuring reinvented tracks by the likes of underworld, kruder & dorfmeister, rex the dog & goldfrapp, etc. etc. a grave miss on my part? if only someone would weigh in...

a brand spankin' new depeche mode remix album will be released next month, so i kinda feel like i should have this one in preparation...

calypso st. barth
admittedly i wasn't over the moon for the calypso st. barth for target collection, launched this past sunday. nevertheless, i found a couple crisp, classic pieces i felt dead set on acquiring & injecting with my own sunlovey spin. like the white cotton tunic with delicate embroidery at the neckline and button-tab cuffs, shown. which i paired to hue cargo leggings, my pewter patricia field platforms, chunky sterling lois hill bracelets and a necklace i created in st. john 1000 years ago, featuring a hinged garnet & pearl pendant on a freshwater pearl strand. i felt like a grown up version of my self. yep, am still playing dress up it seems... in other target fashion news, the buzzzzzzz all day yesterday was a missoni for target collection rolling out this september. have j'adored the vivid woven patterns of missoni since my 1st trip to italy in '95. holy awesome. i hope.

not as far as my closet is concerned. the fashiony buzz for a while now has been pushing us, almost forcefully, towards the return of the flare. and while a 6' glamazon can rock it beautifully, i most prefer the sleek, ankle-hugging skinny—i adore the way it meets the shoe. so clean and sexy. fashion world, you can keep your voluminous '70s silhouettes. the widest i'm going is a straight leg.
