coveting fashion kind of hurts
i try to simply take inspiration from styles i see & dig but at times i literally go to bed lusting & craving stuff i saw in a fashion email. case in point. these icing-like white lace dresses. i wouldn't feel the slightest bit wrong about having each & every one (OK i'd pass on the bottom middle dress, it's a bit dowdy) in my closet. right along side the entire shanghai collection topshop tortured me with earlier this week. the captivating color and pattern play screams escape some place far far away & you know i'm mad about that.
but i haven't a choice but to hit "delete" and fight to eradicate these fabulous visions from my brain. then, enter my own closet and make the very best of what i find. mind you, i am a blessed girl, i find a lot. and yet, i still want...it's hard being a girl. ;-)

SHOPPING THE CLOSET

am truly living each day like it's a brand new fashion challenge as of late. considering essentially ALL of my jeans and pants are ruled out until further notice, getting dressed involves A LOT of scavenger hunts to recesses of closets. thank the fashion gods, i keep digging up old but perfect frocks. like this one from forever 21, say? 3 years ago? i have no concept of time. it's a bubble dress and i used to wear it with a belt. now, flowy and sensationally shapeless. ;-)

in an ideal world we'd all love to acquire something new and fantastic to wear daily, but that just isn't the case, kids. so keep digging deep. reinventing.

HAS TAKEN OVER MY AIRWAVES

health disco::2 is a fantastical remix journey through 10 health songs via 24 tracks (-1 sparkling new one, USA boys which i've already gushed over on this very blog). sometimes it's impossible to believe that you're hearing the same song four times back to back due to the amazing & distinctive variance in interpretations. upon 1st listen, i wasn't smitten, but by listen 2 i was already retracting my initial snap judgement. this album gets blasted in my car. i just know that the best tracks are evoking envy from those driving beside me left wondering "WHAT in the bloody world is that girl listening to?" you'll find that my faves got the bold treatment below. (do a search to HEAR this stuff if you don't believe me, or listen to itunes' little blips of tracks.)

♥Before Tigers (CFCF Remix) - MAJOR love, dreamy beats, vocals really soar in this remix.

♥Before Tigers (Gold Panda Remix) - danceable beats right out of the gate, textured layers w/ beautifully ambient detours.

♥Before Tigers (Rainbow Arabia Remix) drumming, shrill beeps, space meets tribal. not fave.

♥Death+ (Clipd Beaks Remix) underlying tribal, slow, percussion driven, sounds like: horror flick background music. nich fur mich.

♥Death+ (Delivery Remix) organs & clicks give way to trancey meanderings w/sporadic drums. finally builds into a good enough groove.

♥Die Slow (Nastique Remix) asymmetric beats & layers, twinkles & pulses. you do end up grooving to 70s undertones. it's A-OK.

♥Die Slow (Nite Jewel Remix) smooth, glistening sailing in a reflective sparkling sea, that gives way to soft beats & keyboards.

♥Die Slow (Pictureplane Remix) builds & grows properly, cool echoes, tribal drums, fuzzy beats.

♥Die Slow (Pink Stallone Remix) LOVE LOVE LOVE hard. vocals allowed to shine, fat beats, twinkling layers, smart, clean, happy, dancey.

♥Die Slow (Tobacco Remix) HOT DAMN MORE LOVE, just 'cuz this remix SLAYS. tough AND sexy.

♥Eat Flesh (Baron Von Luxxury Remix) would be cool to walk into a club to this song. cool vibe. i dig & feel.

♥Eat Flesh (Crystal Castles Remix) slow. dull. then messy with shrill headache bleeps. not surprised.

♥In Heat (Javelin Remix) Juicy beats & rad 80s-feel layers, happy rollerskating sound.

♥In Heat (Rodion Remix) this is good, i dig. recalls a 70s groove & a touch of daft punk.

♥In Violet (Hidden Cat Remix) starts slow & blah, but then it ebbs & flows alright. kicks in nicely 3/4s in. yeah, it's ok.

♥In Violet (Salem Remix) dark vibe, echoes and chanting, 90s jungle beats and pitchy, trippy layers.

♥Nice Girls (Blondes Remix) trancey, reflective, smart beats give way to, well, 8:08 minutes of just that—trancey, reflective, smart beats.

♥Nice Girls (Little Loud Remix) there's something about it. builds so organically. fun & fluid, you want to "ride" it over & over.

♥Severin (Small Black Remix)Novel, imaginative, bubbly. this mix takes your brain on a fantasy trip via dreamy, quirky atmosphere.

♥Severin (Yip-Yip Remix) not fave. slo-mo nature kind of loses me.

♥USA Boys Health's own. pure addiction. LOVE LOVE & LOVE SOME MORE. it kicks, it kills, with an anticipatory, attention-keeping build, gorgeous vocals, perfection.

♥We Are Water (Azari & III Remix) disconnects & reconnects in a chaotic frenzy of percussion mixed with fat fuzzy beats.

♥We Are Water (Soft Encounter Remix) goes back & forth between abbrasive & cool. perhaps a little too haphazard for me?

happiness is... still being in love with a dress you bought in paris when you were 17. c'est moi, today!

some shop your closet experiences are so sublime. this morning was one such case.

obtained on a family trip to the city of lights, circa hmmm? 1992ish, my dark heather grey knit sheath with cool seam accenting, a V-neck and V-back appeared to me amidst a crammed and jammed pack rack of dresses in my closet like a hidden treasure. i put it on and in a mad dash to get out the door asap for an 8:30 on the dot meeting. accessorized it with a trio of necklaces that happened to hang together on the little table i hang all of my long necklaces on.

i loved the way in which the two necklaces that featured faceted jet and various other medallions and trinkets looked with my long double strand chain and rhinestone necklace. paired so awesomely to the stud and rhinestone snap cuff i got in jax whilst visiting heathy.

fact is, donating clothes you rarely wear is smart and good and green, but holding onto the occasional piece because you have a gut instinct about the great future you and it might have together forever is a sort of #fashionkismet.

today i streamed yeasayer's soon to be released album odd blood on myspace. i found myself perking up upon hearing O.N.E. and Ambling Alp, not sure how this bodes for the remainder of the album, upon 1st listen, it didn't move mountains or part seas for me. let's see.

i did however, listen to ou est le swimming pool's dance the way i feel something like five times. yes, it's love.

also. bought tix to hercules and love affair's DJ set at the vagabond in miami this saturday.

+learned that the dead weather will be playing a show in orlando on april 26th. (the dead weather features rulin' artists like jack white of the white stripes & raconteurs and alison mosshart of the kills JUST IN CASE you weren't sure.)


seems orlando's the place to be as of late when it comes to sounds i like actually hitting FL. i.e. a place to bury strangers' show there, april 4th.


considering this is the second time i've written tonight's post, I'M OUT. (yep, round one deleted itself 40 minutes in).

I interrupt this music blog for a bit of fashion just because i want to tell you about an item of clothing that I'm mad glad I bought last year, in two colors, and plan, after today, to get in more... it's that genius! there it is, the word genius used, now THREE times, in one blog.


American Apparel's shiny ruched tube bra rocks. As evidenced by the following photographic proof:

But what the hell, when it comes to bra options? Back goes way too low for strapless. Leaves one with no choice but to FLAUNT whatever undergarment they're wearing. Thus, GOLD LAMÉ. Then there's that pesky super plunging neckline VS dress I wore to ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL this year. Solution:

HA! I love it. I love you Jessica. How I'd love to have answered, YES! Yes, it's Hale Bob. But, alas, no, it's vintage. And given to me at that, not bought. By my neighbor like 10 doors down, it was her mother-in-law's!

So you see, I noted the pale blue color meandering around throughout the satiny paisleys and had a little epiphany of sorts! Mad dash rummaging occurred and I found it! A satin sash incredibly close to said pale blue, tied it on and thought, A ha! Yes, this is it. Added a stunning Forever 21 necklace that sparkles so beautifully and my super high golden heels from Steve Madden. One of those insanely good fashion Monday mornings. Had to share...

Moral of the story, be a hoarder. ;-) Shop your own closet. Never underestimate things you already own. Just reinvent them. Give them new life.
